Daily Check-In
It’s easy to ask “How was your day?” and get a one-word answer. This month, your family can try a five-minute Daily Check-In that goes a little deeper. Share the best part of your day, the hardest part, and how you’re feeling, then take a few minutes to really listen to each other.
⭐ Your Challenge This Month:
Once a day, at dinner or right before bedtime, everyone shares three things: the best part of their day, the hardest part of their day, and one feeling word that describes how they're doing. Try words like proud, nervous, frustrated, excited, left out, relieved. Parents share too - when kids hear a grown-up say "I felt overwhelmed today," they learn that everyone has big feelings, not just kids. And when someone shares, everyone else just listens. No fixing, no lectures.
At the end of the month, check back in. Sit down with everyone and talk about it. Did the check-ins get easier and feel more natural? Did you learn something new about each other? The conversation is just as valuable as the challenge itself.
Why this matters:
Research shows that kids who can put their feelings into words are better at handling them - naming a feeling actually helps take some of its power away. Kids who talk about their day with their family regularly do better with stress, friendships, and school. And a daily check-in gives parents something priceless: a real window into their kid's world, five minutes at a time.
